November 28, 2013 – Thanksgiving Day
There’s no better way to know God and his plan for your life than to read his word, daily.
“If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” Jesus, John 15:7 NIV
BibleHabit is about encouraging people, no matter where they are in their spiritual journey, to read the Bible on a regular (daily) basis. By turning to God with an honest and open heart we are then able to hear what he has to say, respond to his love, grace, and mercy, then discover what it means to serve and share his love with others.
My name is Greg Elwell, and on October 19, 2012, I began a plan to read through the Bible in a year. I used the YouVersion Bible App, a free mobile version of the Bible available in many versions, languages and for a wide range of mobile devices and platforms. Currently, there are over 299 million worldwide YouVersion users.
I completed my plan to read through the Bible in a year on October 19, 2013. It made me feel like I had climbed to the summit of Mount Everest! I then read a 12-day plan on the topic of Wisdom followed by a 30-day plan of reading through the Gospels, which is where I’m at now as I write this introduction to BibleHabit. (There are hundreds of reading plans available on YouVersion!)
I’m not bragging about being a daily Bible reader. I just want to encourage you that it can be done. Anyone can develop the habit. One thing I did that greatly encouraged me to continue was when I joined others in the Daily Bible Reading group on Coach.me.
Coach.me is a free service (there are apps for Apple and Android devices) that lets users choose goals and then record progress. Those who share the same goal, or follow you can give “Props” just by clicking a thumbs up button. Giving and receiving Props is a great way to help support others while receiving encouragement to keep the habit going for yourself.
When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies. Jeremiah 15:16 NLT
