For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. Ephesians 1:15-16
This is the start of Paul’s beautiful and powerful prayer for the believers in the church at Ephesus, whom he refers to in verse one of his letter as “God’s holy people…the faithful in Christ Jesus.”
This prayer is particularly meaningful to me and one that I have continued to personalize several times a week over the past several years.
Why is Paul’s prayer so significant to me?
Yes, I desire to grow in my faith with the Lord Jesus and increase in my love for all God’s people, but it’s more than that.
This prayer of Paul’s for those who have demonstrated a faith and love relationship goes beyond, way beyond. It’s a prayer for believers to grow in Christian maturity, to deepen their Spiritual union with God and to experience his power more fully.
I want that.
This is my prayer before opening his word on many of my mornings of #DailyBibleReading:
Glorious Father, may you give me the Spirit of wisdom and revelation to know you better. I pray that the eyes of my heart would be enlightened in order that I may know the hope to which you have called me, the riches of your glorious inheritance in your holy people, and your incomparably great power for us who believe. (Ephesians 1:17-19, personalized)
Let us not stop at faith in our Lord Jesus and love for all God’s people. Let’s start there, but let’s go on from there – go on to a deeper, richer, holier and more powerful Christian existence. Let’s not settle for the bottle when we can grow up into all the fullness of him who fills everything in every way!
The suggested #LoveChallenge is to pray this prayer. Personalize it. Keep asking God to make it a reality in our lives and in our churches.
